World Cup qualifiers: Super Eagles get Semi Ajayi boost

Semi Ajayi has cleared doubts injury will rule him out of Super Eagles 2026 World Cup qualifiers this month when he returned to score for West Bromwich Albion to beat Hull City.

Semi Ajayi, who missed his club’s last two games due to injury, came off the bench to score the third goal in a 3-1 home win over Hull City in the English Championship.

It was the second goal of the season for the central defender.

“It’s been really good to be back with the boys and more importantly to contribute to a win,” he said.

“I’m really delighted, the boys put in a really good shift, so I’m delighted.”

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has insisted on Ajayi in the heart of the back four in the absence of the highly experienced William Ekong.

The Eagles take on Lesotho in Uyo on November 16, before they travel to Kigali, Rwanda, to face Zimbabwe in a second 2026 World Cup qualifier four days later.
