Wrong to compare Spalletti’s Italy with Napoli – Di Lorenzo

Napoli defender Giovanni di Lorenzo has said it’s unfair to expect Italy coach Luciano Spalletti’s methods to be instantly picked up by the players.

The pair worked together at Napoli before Spalletti’s departure at the end of last season.

Di Lorenzo said: “Surely there hasn’t been enough time, but we must not look at Napoli’s performances in the previous campaign.

“Players are different so we must not aim to play the same brand of football. What matters is the coach’s ideas and the identity he wants to give. We want to work on this aspect. We know there is no time in football so we need to win which is very important for us.

“We must not make comparisons, because players are not the same,” insisted the Italian defender.

“The coach has his ideas, he wants an attacking-minded team and I think he can put his ideas into practice. We have quality and availability to play as he wants, so we must put it on the pitch.”
