After his not-too-good outing at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Lukmon Lawal is hoping for a reversal of fortune at Gold Coast in Australia.

Lawal, who will be competing in the men’s 81kg of boxing event said he is in top shape for the commencement of the event.

“I am eagerly looking forward to the tournament and I am in top shape for the fierce battle in Australia. There is no doubt that it is not going to be an easy task but I believe that I won’t make the same mistake I made in Delhi and Glasgow,” he said.

The pugilist added: “We are not here to admire other fighters and kiss the canvass but to make a name for ourselves. I am confident that representing Nigeria at such a big tournament would spur us to do well,” Lawal said.

Despite the unfriendly weather in Australia, the boxer said: “The weather in Australia is not  going to stop us from winning medals for our country. We have been training very well over here even more that when we were in Nigeria because they have enough equipment for us to train over here.

“The fight will start on April 4 and Nigeria will intensify its training with special focus on speed work because we need to shape our hands more. We are fully ready in anyway to win medals for Nigeria and to make Nigeria proud as well as make names for ourselves,” he added.
