2019 AFCON: Iwobi, leads three Eagles to camp today

As the Super Eagles intensify preparations for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, four more players are expected to arrive in the team’s camp in Asaba, Delta State today.

Three of the players like Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi, Al Nassr’s Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi of Bursaspor were given extra days break and so did not report to camp on the official resumption day with the rest of the squad.

Specifically, Iwobi was permitted by coach Gernot Rohr to rest in line with FIFA rules after playing in Arsenal’s 4-1 loss to fellow English club Chelsea in last Wednesday’s UEFA Europa League final in Baku, where he came off the bench to score the Gunners’ only goal of the game.

Musa and his close pal, Shehu were also allowed to finish observing the holy month of Ramadan which ended yesterday.

However, today’s arrival of Odion Ighalo would help Rohr ascertain the fitness level of the Shanghai Shenhua striker who was yet to play a competitive match in 26 days, having suffered a hamstring injury in the 12th minute of his side’s 1-1 draw against Tianjin Teda on May 10.
