EAGLES ROUND-UP: Onazi feared injured, Iheanacho benched, Aina sees action

Ahead of next month’s announcement of the Super Eagles provisional list for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi may have picked up an injury while on duty for Turkish club, Trabzonspor on Saturday.

 

Ahead of next month’s announcement of the Super Eagles provisional list for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi may have picked up an injury while on duty for Turkish club, Trabzonspor on Saturday.

The midfielder was pulled out in the 28th minute in Trabzonspor’s 4-0 win over Kayserispor in the Turkish Super Lig.

The 25-year-old who has scored twice this season with one assist was replaced by Ugur Demirok

Saturday’s encounter was Onazi’s 18th for the season.

The timing of the injury will be a concern to Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr who is expecting his players to end the season injury free.

In England, Kelechi Iheanacho watched from the bench as Leicester City lost 2-1 to visitors, Newcastle in the English Premier League. Iheanacho who has been benched 11 times this season has one EPL goal to his credit.

Teammate, Wilfred Ndidi missed the game due to a 2-match suspension.

Still in England, Ola Aina made his 41st start of the season for Hull City who defeated 10-man Queens Park Rangers 4-0 on Saturday in an English Championship clash.

Nigeria defender Leon Balogun  played the entire game  for Mainz 05 in their 1-1 draw to FC Cologne in the German Bundesliga, but was yellow carded in the 44th minute.

In the Belgium first division, Super Eagles fringe player Uche Henry Agbo was on the pitch until the 83rd minute for Standard Liege who lost by a lone goal to Genk.  Agbo was replaced by Moussa Djenepo.
