No Nigerian player in Belgium has been considered for the 2018 Ebony Boot which is awarded to African players in the league’s top flight.

The trio of Henry Onyekuru, Moses Simon and Uche Agbo all members of the senior team, the Super Eagles were missing from the five-man list announced on Friday.

In the case of Onyekuru, he has scored 11 goals for Anderlecht this season before getting injured last December.

His exclusion may come as a surprise to his fans and club.

The Anderlecht player who is on loan from premiership side, Everton was in February voted the 2017 most promising player while in the colours of AS Eupen.

The 20-year-old who scored 12 times in 28 appearances, secured 219 of the 509 votes to see off competition from Mechelen’s Hassan Bandé and Landry Dimata

Interestingly Bande is on the five-man list along with Mehdi Cercla, Christian Luyindama, Ibrahima Seck, and Anthony Limbombe.

Only four Nigerians have won the award since its inception in 1992.

Daniel Amokachi won it twice followed by Victor Ikpeba, Godwin Okpara and Celestine Babayaro.

In 2015, Simon was second behind Neesken Kebano of Congo.
