Any Super Eagles’ star desirous of making the World Cup squad should banish the thought of eating spicy food, so says the team’s head coach Gernot Rohr.

The German told SportingLife.ng in emphatic terms that food garnished with a lot of pepper will not be part of the menu the players will be served before and during the World Cup.

From personal experience, Rohr admitted that after several persuasion from some Nigeria Football Federation officials, he tried once to eat spicy Nigerian food in Abuja but had stomach upset afterwards.

“Yes, I’ve eaten a lot of fish here in Nigeria because I like the way it’s prepared but I can’t say the same of spicy food because it was too hot for my stomach the first and only time I tried to eat it”

The former coach of Niger Republic national football team said he had already directed the team doctor to ensure that spicy meals are left out of the players menu when camping begins for the World Cup in Russia.

“I’ve told our team doctor that our players cannot take spicy food. Most of them were born in Europe and those that were born in Nigeria are no longer used to eating meals full of pepper having lived outside the country for a while.

“We are going into serious preparations for the World Cup and we don’t want playing suffering from stomach upsets after eating spicy food” he told Sportinglife.ng.
