Respected Gambia referee to handle S/Africa vs Nigeria match

Respected Gambia referee Bakary Papa Gassama has been appointed to officiate the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier involving Bafana Bafana of South Africa and the Super Eagles of Nigeria on November 17.

Gassama who at 39 has officiated several high profile matches, was among the few Africans selected by the international football governing body (FIFA) to handle matches at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Before Russia 2018, Gassama who has won the CAF referee award was one of the 25 referees picked for the 2014 edition in Brazil and officiated the third group B match between the Netherlands and Chile.

Coming back to Nigeria, Gassama was in charge Nigeria’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Algeria at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo which the Eagles won 3-1.

Nigeria leads Group E with 9 points from four matches, and need either a draw or win to qualify for the tournament in Cameroon while South Africa need a win.
