Afrobasket: Nigeria qualifies for semi-final after beating CDR
Defending champions, D’Tigress have booked their semi-final place at the Women Afrobasket in Senegal after beating Democratic Republic of Congo 79-46 in today’s quarterfinal game.
The D’Tigress were the better side throughout the game and made their experience count as they piled a lot pressure on the Congolese, who made some mistake which the Nigerian capitalized on.
The reigning champions won all four quarters 22 – 9, 16 – 14, 23 -9, 18 -14 for a cumulative score of 79-46 to continue their beautiful run in the championship. What is certain is that the competition will get tougher as the favorites make their way to the latter stages of the competition.
DR Congo, a very athletic and physical team, had to contend with the better equipped and more experience Nigerian side who left no one in doubt of their desire to win yesterday’s game.
Ezinne Kalu leading the pack, 17points, five steals, and two assists while teammates Victoria Macaulay and Adaora Elonu also put up 14 points and 11 points respectively.
