Duru predicts tough contest in National Handball League

Lagos Seasiders coach Bukola Duru has described league leaders, Kano Pillars, defending champions, Niger United and Safety Shooters as their biggest rivals on the local scene.

Speaking after her team defeated D. Defenders 37-29 yesterday at the ongoing Prudent Energy Basketball League, Duru stated that the three teams were top sides in the league and that his team has to get a good result against them to finish in a respectable position after the league.

 “I have a good team that can do well against the top sides in the men’s category, but Kano Pillars, Niger United and Safety Shooters are tough sides that have to beat to have a chance of doing well in the league,” she added.

Meanwhile, Niger United made it two wins from two games in the men’s category after dispatching Sokoto Rima 34-29 in one of the ties played yesterday.

Plateau Peacock, defending champions in the women’s category, also defeated Desert Queens 34-18 to continue their push to the top of the table in the women’s category.

Pillars seem to have perfected a way of neutralizing their opponent’s threat as they defeated Borno Spiders 26-18 for their second win, while Army team, COAS Shooters bounced back from their opening day defeat against Pillars to beat Owena Kings of Akure 28-23.
