WCQ: Rohr applauds new Super Eagles stars after Cape Verde win
Gernot Rohr has applauded his makeshift Super Eagles side after a crucial 2-1 win in Cape Verde on Tuesday, insisting that his missing top stars should be ready for competition of places in the team.
The Eagles were without seven players who started Friday’s 2-0 home win over Liberia on Friday, after their clubs in the Premier League and Scotland barred them from playing in Red-listed Cape Verde.
However, in the absence of the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi and William Ekong, the trio of Innocent Bonke, Kingsley Michael and Chidera Ejuke proved their worth in Cape Verde.
Speaking moments after the final whistle, an impressed Rohr said: “The new players have brought in new competition to the first team.
“We have had (Innocent) Bonke in our scouting team, they did well, we missed harmony in the early moment, but they did a good job.

“It was a difficult game for us, we needed to built a new team, it wasn’t easy, but in Nigeria we have abundant talents.”
The coach said he hopes to keep winning on the way to Qatar 2022.
“We are happy to win this game, it is not easy to come back, the goal we conceded was unfortunate. We need to continue winning and play well,” Rohr submitted.
