AFCON 2021: Omeruo opens up on what he enjoys most in Eagles camp

Super Eagles centre-back Kenneth Omeruo is thrilled with the fight for starting spot in the Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin Republic’s Squirrels on Wednesday, November 13.

Omeruo missed two start games for the Gernot Rohr’s side, with West Brom’s defender Ajayi partnering Williams Troost-Ekong in the heart of Super Eagles defence against Ukraine and Brazil in September and October respectively.

Presently, Ajayi enjoying a decent run in the Sky Bet Championship with West Brom, but many suggests he’s good enough to keep his spot in the heart of Eagles defence ahead of Omeruo.

However, the Leganes defender stressed he’s not under pressure to reclaim his position, but believes competition between the pair is good for the team.

”Of course, the competition is always welcome, the important thing is we have quality players that can replace anybody at any time,” Omeruo was quoted as saying to sports journalists.

“Semi has been part of the team even before AFCON, so he’s someone that we know, we have trained together.

”Everyone can see he’s doing very well in his club as well so it is a good thing for the country, for the club to have more than two, three players in the position, the challenge is always good,” Omeruo submitted.
