AFCON: Aribo ‘wonderful player’ upfront, says Leon Balogun

Rangers teammate Leon Balogun has said Joe Aribo will shine even more as the Super Eagles No 10 than as the second defensive midfielder he is with the national team.

Aribo has shone at the AFCON in Cameroon playing alongside Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi in a more defensive position than he does at his Scottish club.

Balogun, who missed out on the AFCON due to injury, has now said Aribo would even shine more in an attacking No 10 position.

“If you put him as a No 10, he will give you more joy because he knows how to take on players, he knows how to delay in a way,” Balogun offered.

“However, I am happy he’s found a way to bring his form to the national team because people have been waiting for long for him to actually replicate the kind of form he has at club level.

“So, I’m actually happy he’s found a way to do it in a different position.”

This season, Aribo has netted six goals and provided five assists in 32 appearances for the Scottish champions.
