AFCON: Cameroon look to brush aside Ethiopia

Cameroon will face off with Ethiopia in their second 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match on Thursday. Kick-off is at 6:00 pm CAT.

The Group A match is set to take place at the Stade Omnisport Paul Biya in Cameroon’s biggest city, Yaoundé.

The Indomitable Lions claimed a 2-1 win over Burkina Faso in their opening match in Group D which was played on Sunday.

Vincent Abubakar, who is the Cameroon captain, was the hero for the Indomitable Lions as he scored twice against Burkina Faso.

The Saudi Arabia-based centre forward will now be looking to inspire tournament hosts to a win over a wounded Ethiopia side.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia are coming off a 1-0 defeat to Cape Verde in their opening Group D match which was also played on Sunday.

Julio Tavares scored the only goal of the match for Cape Verde and Wali Ibex will once again be looking to their captain Getaneh Kebede.

Kebede is an experienced striker with an eye for goals and he will be keen to lead his troops to a shock win over Cameroon.

The last meeting between Cameroon and Ethiopia was on 13 January 2016.
