AfroBasket Qualifiers: D’Tigers suffer 3rd Straight Defeat

Nigeria’s D’Tigers suffered their third consecutive defeat at the AfroBasket 2025 qualifiers in Tunisia, after losing to Cape Verde, in their Group B game on Sunday.

Going into the game on the back of defeats against Libya and Uganda, D’Tigers succumbed to a 78-62 loss.

The Nigerian men’s team took the first quarters 24-16 but lost the second, third and fourth quarters 23-9, 21-18 and 18-11 respectively

The team almost did not partake in the qualifiers due to lack of funds and played all their three qualifiers with only nine players.

The AfroBasket 2025 qualification will be played from February to November 2024, to determine the 16 nations who will qualify for the FIBA AfroBasket 2025. Many expect little from the team considering the struggle to raise funds which put uncertainty in the participation.

D’Tigers had earlier lost 76-62 to Uganda.

That alone is already pointing to massive defeat and possibility of failing to earn a slot.Fire bridgade approach towards preparation for international tournaments has been discussed a million times at seminars and stakeholders conferences in Nigeria but walking the talk has always been a big headache.
