D’Tigers make U-turn, set for 2025 Afrobasket qualifiers
The Nigeria senior men’s national basketball team, D’Tigers, are set to compete in the 2025 Afrobasket qualifiers starting Friday in Monastir, Tunisia.
There were concerns within the basketball community about D’Tigers’ participation due to financial constraints faced by the Ministry of Sports.
However, Minister for Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh has given his consent for the team to participate.
He assured that necessary funds will be approved and released within the next three weeks to cover flight tickets, allowances, and other logistics.

With the support of the Sports Ministry, NBBF President Ahmadu Musa Kida and his team ensured D’Tigers’ departure for Tunisia at short notice, averting potential embarrassment locally and internationally.
“We deeply appreciate the Honourable Minister’s support in ensuring our participation in the qualifiers,” remarked Kida.
“His timely intervention has saved the country from disgrace and another FIBA ban.”
Despite challenges, Kida assured Nigerian basketball fans that D’Tigers would give their best to secure a qualification ticket for the 2025 Afrobasket championship.
