Aldridge: Liverpool signed wrong attacker from RB Salzburg

Liverpool legend, John Aldridge, has said they signed the wrong attacker from RB Salzburg.

As Takumi Minamino joined Liverpool, Erling Haaland moved on the same transfer window when he made the switch from Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund for €20milllion.

“We could all see Haaland’s potential at Salzburg and for an extra £10milllion, Liverpool could have looked to sign him instead of Minamino,” Aldo told Sunday World.

“I like Minamino and he has done well since his loan move to Southampton in January, but the player Liverpool needed to sign from Salzburg in that transfer window was clearly Haaland.

“His agent may have been asking for big money, but that was the deal that could have taken Liverpool to the next level as we have all see what Haaland has done since he moved to Dortmund.

“He is big, powerful, direct, fearless and hungry. They are all qualities you want in a striker and there is no one like him in the game at the moment.

“Haaland would offer Liverpool the kind of attacking option they don’t have at the moment and in a season when things have gone against Jurgen Klopp and his team he could have been the striker who could have kept things ticking along.

“If Haaland moves this summer, the fee is bound to be in excess of £100million and that means Liverpool won’t have the cash to sign him. It means the decision to sign Minamino and not Haaland is a decision that will come back to haunt Liverpool for years to come.”
