Angry Muller slams teammates for ignoring fans

Thomas Müller has slammed his Bayern Munich teammates for their lack of appreciation for their traveling support after a shock 2-1 German Cup third-tier defeat to Saarbrücken.

German giants Bayern were humiliated with a last-gasp winner on Wednesday evening.

Marcel Gaus scored the winner for the home side deep into second-half stoppage time, completing a sensational comeback and sparking wild celebrations from the home crowd as Bayern’s players looked on in complete shock.

Bayern, who last lifted the trophy in 2020, had taken a first-half lead through Müller before the hosts leveled in first-half extra time through Patrick Sontheimer.

At the whistle, Müller was just one of a few players who went to talk to the angry Bayern supporters, who also included Joshua Kimmich and Mathys Tel.

And leaving that interaction behind, the 34-year-old condemned his teammates for not all acknowledging their support.

Absolutely understandable for the fans. It’s not necessarily about the game or the result.

‘What is not possible at all is for only three or four players to understand how to respect the support.

‘They came here, I don’t know how many, 100 kilometers a week.

‘The most important thing is that you understand how you can give back. Of course it doesn’t work that way.’

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel made several changes to the team that crushed Darmstadt 98 8-0 on Saturday, leaving top scorer Harry Kane on the bench along with Kingsley Coman and Jamal Musiala, while handing 20-year-old Frans Kratzig his first start concerned.

The match was in doubt due to heavy rain but it was the hosts who troubled Bayern earlier in the match before the visitors opened their account with their first chance when Kratzig set up Muller in the 15th minute.

Bayern also had to take defender Matthias de Ligt off the field halfway through the first half, as the Dutch international suffered a knee injury.
