Angry vandals attack nose of Zlatan Ibrahimovic statue

 

Zlatan Ibrahimovic recent move to Hammarby after leaving MLS side Galaxy, may have given the former Manchester United ace a lot to cheer about but vandals angry with the move are taking out their frustration on his statue in front of Malmo stadium in Sweden.

The statue which was erected in October 9 2019 has become a subject of attacks in recent times by vandals.

This is the latest damage inflicted to the monument after the Swedish striker announced he had purchased a 25 per cent stake in rival club Hammarby on November 27.

Upset supporters had previously sprayed it with paint, set it on fire and put a toilet seat over its arm

The 3.5 metre high bronze statue was commissioned by the Swedish FA and unveiled on October 9 of this year.

The structure has since been jet washed by workers in an attempt to clear off the debris and dirt from it.

Ibrahimovic’s house in Stockholm was also vandalised, with ‘Judas’ painted on the front door amid the recriminations from his involvement with Hammarby.

Ibrahimovic, now 38, was born in Malmo and made his professional debut for the club in 1999.

He would then go on to appear 47 times and score 18 goals before departing for Ajax in 2001.

Ibrahimovic has also gone on to play for Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan, Paris St-Germain and Manchester United.
