Argentina vs Nigeria friendly gets new venue, date

The international friendly between Nigeria and Argentina has been relocated to the United States of America.

Initially slated to hold in China, the encounter has now been moved and hold in March.

Argentina’s FA said on Thursday Lionel Scaloni’s side will face El Salvador at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on March 22 before taking on Nigeria at the Coliseum in Los Angeles on March 26.

Intrestingly, the venue change follows a dispute between Argentine superstar Lionel Messi and Chinese soccer authorities.

Messi’s refusal to participate in a friendly match between his club, Inter Miami, and Hong Kong X1 due to a groin injury stirred controversy, leading to the cancellation of the planned game in China.

In light of these developments, Argentina will also engage in a friendly match against El Salvador in March, part of their preparation for upcoming fixtures.

For Nigeria, the friendly will serve as preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic scheduled for June.
