Atletico Madrid Legend Griezmann hints on MLS interest

Atletico Madrid Antoine Griezmann has revealed interest in playing in the MLS. Griezmann added that Atletico Madrid will be “almost one hundred percent my last club in Europe” during an interview with French media, and also revealed that he would like to play in the MLS towards the end of his career.

Now forgiven by the club’s fervent supporters for leaving to join FC Barcelona in 2019, Griezmann is once again an Atleti legend while more than happy to don Rojiblanco.

“It’s where I want to be, where I look the happiest and here I am at home,” Griezmann explained.

“I know the club is in favour of being able to make an effort and we will talk about it,” he added, as per a contract extension.

Furthermore, Griezmann reiterated a dream to play in the United States one day. “I’ve always recognized that,” he pointed out.

“I want to win titles with this club. To do our best. We’re up against Inter [Milan] in the round of 16 Champions League, they’re a tough opponent, but they’re similar to us.

“And in La Liga we want to be as close as possible until the end, because anything can happen until the end,” he said of the Spanish league, where Atleti currently ride third place.

Though he initially received a frosty reception upon his return to Atletico, Griezmann now views his second stint in the capital as a success.

“I was also happy in the first spell here at Atleti. I think I’m happy now, but on top of that I really realize that I’m happy. Then you enjoy it more and you have more fun, because in the first spell I didn’t realize how happy I was,” Griezmann submitted.

Though things are now rosy between the player and his employers, one possible source of conflict down the road could be whether Atleti allows him to represent France in the 2024 Olympics, which will be held in Paris next summer.

“We have to talk to the club. But it’s a goal for me, it’s a dream. I would like to,” he confessed.

Griezmann and Atletico return to action on January 3 when they face unexpected title contenders Girona.
