Dane Scarlett drafted in as Heung-Min Son set to miss six games

Tottenham starlet Dane Scarlett has had his loan with Ipswich Town cut short and may prove to be useful for Ange Postecoglou with Son set to miss at least six games.

Heung-Min Son is set to leave to play for South Korea in the Asia Cup after Spurs’ clash against Bournemouth on December 31.

Son could miss six of his side’s games, including Burnley in the FA Cup third round, a possible fourth round tie, Manchester United away in the Premier League, Brentford at home, Everton away and Brighton at home

The Asia Cup final is scheduled for February 10.

Scarlett made 12 appearances off the bench for the Championship outfit in the league this season, registering 146 minutes in total.

He’s been unable to earn a regular spot in the Suffolk-outfit this term.

Kieran McKenna’s side have surprised everyone and sit second in the league just seven months after their promotion from League One.

As a result, Scarlett has struggled to get into their starting team.

In a statement on Wednesday, Tottenham said: “Dane Scarlett has been recalled from his loan at Ipswich Town.

Son has scored 11 goals in 19 competitions for Spurs this season and will be a miss in January

“The striker, aged 19, made 12 substitute appearances in the Championship for a Tractor Boys side who have been in impressive form so far this season and currently occupy second place.

“Dane, who signed a new contract with the Club during the summer, has made 11 competitive first team appearances for us to date, most recently coming on as a half-time substitute in our Carabao Cup second round tie at Fulham on 29 August before joining Ipswich two days later.

“On the international stage, he received his first call-up for England’s Under-21s this term, making his debut in a UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier against Luxembourg in September.”

Scarlett played for Tottenham in the Carabao Cup penalty shootout loss to Fulham in August.

That followed his loan to League One Portsmouth last season, with him making 40 appearances and scoring six goals as well as providing two assists for Pompey.

He said: “There are a lot of moving parts you’re talking about there, mate.

“Good to get Dane back and obviously the loan didn’t work out for him at Ipswich, which is disappointing for him and disappointing for us because the reason we sent him out on loan was to get some game-time, rhythm and develop.
