first leg of the 2018 Africa Women’s Championship.

 

Nigeria’s Super Falcons on Wednesday defeated the Female Scorpions of Gambia by a lone goal in the
first leg of the 2018 Africa Women’s Championship. The game was played before a scanty crowd at the
Independence Stadium in Bakau in Gambia.

Home based Amarachi Okoronkwo’s long range effort in the 19th minute seperated both sides who are back
for the second leg at the Agege Stadium next Monday.

The Falcons who were regrouping for the first time after the France Friendly in April failed to take
their chances.

The Falcons scored in the 70th minute through Nasarrawa Amazons striker, Anam Imo but it was ruled for
offside by the centre referee.

Head Coach Thomas Dennerby brought in Ngozi Okobi for Asisat Oshoala while Uchendu Chinaza replaced Imo
as the team pushed for goals.

Gambia’s only effort of the game was in the 70th minute when Penda Bah’s long range effort was saved by
keeper Tochukwu Oluehi.

Whoever wins qualifies for the championship scheduled for Ghana later in the year.
