Bafana star Percy Tau leaves Al Ahly

Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau has parted ways with Egyptian super club Al Ahly.

SuperSport.com reports that the 28-year-old, who made his name with Mamelodi Sundowns before moving to Brighton and Hove Albion via a spell with various Belgian clubs, has parted ways with the club.

Tau had joined Al Ahly from Brighton, a move that caused much consternation in South Africa considering that he was moving from the competitive English Premiership with a better global appeal to a less glamourous, but also competitive Egyptian league.

He saw success in his early days under Pitso Mosimane’s tutelage at the club, where he won the CAF Champions League and the CAF Super Cup.

Injuries lessened his effectiveness and appearances, something that concerned Bafana coach Hugo Broos.

Once Mosimane left Al Ahly in June this year, questions arose over Tau’s stay with the club and his reported departure confirmed that since his mentor, who coached him at Sundowns, left, Tau was on borrowed time at Al Ahly.
