Barca prodigy Ansu Fati ‘suffers setback’ in recovery

Barcelona sensation Ansu Fati could be out for longer than expected as he has reportedly suffered a ‘setback’ in his recovery.

The 18-year-old prodigy has been out of action for three months after undergoing knee surgery, with his last outing coming in a 5-2 victory over Real Betis on November 7.

Fati had made a storming start to the season at that point, scoring five goals in 12 appearances.

A report by Goal has dismissed prior speculation that Fati has undergone a second operation, but confirmed that the youngster is still ‘suffering discomfort’ and is ‘some way off a return to action’.

The news is a bitter blow to take for Ronald Koeman’s side, with games coming thick and fast.

It means that the youngster is a huge doubt for their Champions League Round of 16 clash against Paris-Saint Germain.

The club had hoped that Fati would be back in training by the end of January but this has not been the case.

A report from Diario Sport stated that the teenager felt fresh pains in his knee with scans showing a build-up in fluid.

If he does undergo further surgery, it could potentially bring his 2020-21 campaign to an end and make him a massive doubt for the Euro 2020 finals in the summer.

Fati has recently become one of the established attacking players at the club, and started every LaLiga game until he got injured.

His performances led him to getting an international call-up with Spain, and in September broke a 95-year standing record to become the youngest goalscorer for the country’s senior team.
