Barcelona are looking at Origi as potential back-up for Suarez

Barcelona are looking at Liverpool’s Divock Origi as a potential back-up striker to Luis Suarez for next season.

The Belgian has struggled to break into Jurgen Klopp’s side on a consistent basis, but scored some crucial goals in the 2018/19 season.

They included a tie-winning brace against Barcelona in Liverpool’s famous 4-0 win at Anfield in the Champions League semi-final.

Origi also scored the winner away at Newcastle which kept the Reds’ title bid alive – only for Manchester City to secure the crown on the final day.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca were very impressed with Origi’s performance against them and see him as an ideal back-up for Suarez.

While Antoine Griezmann is expected to arrive from Atletico Madrid, the Blaugrana want more of a no. 9 to arrive as well as the Frenchman.

Kevin-Prince Boateng was signed on loan in January to fill that void, but he ended up playing in just four games in all competitions and failed to contribute a goal or an assist.

The Ghanian was never going to be a long-term option, but Origi could be as he is still only 24 and has shown glimpses of his quality at Liverpool this season.
