Barcelona clear €80m off annual wage bill

Barcelona have managed to clear €80m off their annual wage bill with the summer market now shut.

Sport reports Atletico Madrid signing Luis Suarez earned the most (he had one year left on his deal, plus another option year) and was the third-highest paid player at the club on just over €15m net. Barcelona will pay him €7.5, for the termination of his contract.

Arturo Vidal (who joined Inter Milan for €1m euros in variables) was earning €8.6m euros net and has given up the final year of his contract, as has Ivan Rakitic (moved to Sevilla for €1.5m plus €9m in variables), who was on €7.8m net.

For Nelson Semedo (Wolves, €30m plus €10 in variables), his salary was around €4m net and he will not receive any form of payoff, either.

Arthur Melo (sold to Juventus for €72m + €10m in add-ons) was earning €3.1m net and Barcelona won’t have to pay a penny of the four years left on his contract. Neither will they have to pay anything to Rafinha, who was on a similar wage, who joined Paris Saint-Germain for free, with Barça due up to €3m in add-ons and a percentage of any future sale.

Barça also managed to loan out Jean-Clair Todibo (Benfica) and Moussa Wague (PAOK) and in both cases their new clubs will pay the wages.
