Brighton 3: 2 Everton: Digne’s own goal condemns Iwobi’s Everton to sixth league defeat

 

Alex Iwobi played for 72 minutes in Everton’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of Brighton in Saturday’s premier league match at the Amex Stadium.

Pascal Gross’s free kick in the 15th minute had given the Seagulls the lead, but Adam Webster’s own goal and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s strike put the Toffees on the path of victory after 74 minutes.

Brighton had the last laugh when Neal Maupay equalised from the penalty spot – after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) ruled Aaron Connolly was fouled by Michael Keane.

The Toffees would however have Lucas Digne to blame after scoring an own goal in injury time to consign them to their sixth defeat of the season.

Iwobi was playing his seventh match for Everton before leaving the pitch for Dominic- Calvert Lewin.

Meanwhile Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun was benched by Brighton who were winning their third victory of the season It also seals successive home Premier League victories for the first time since October 2018.

Balogun has not made any league appearance for the Seagulls this season.
