Capello: Italy should invite Klopp, Mourinho to educate their coaches

Former Real Madrid and AC Milan coach Fabio Capello has said Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho should be invited to educate Italian coaches.

Capello believes Liverpool manager Klopp and Tottenham’s Mourinho can help the development of Italy’s young trainers.

He told Corriere dello Sport: “There are four German coaches in the Champions League quarter-finals: Klopp, Tuchel, Terzic and Flick. And look at what Guardiola is doing. He changed his defence. He wants Cancelo to push hard and play in midfield, so that he has more room to recapture the ball when they lose it.

“Ancelotti has won many titles abroad, Conte and Sarri as well, Ranieri won the Premier League with Leicester. The real problem is the quality. Here in Italy, we have many champions in their 30s who still make the difference: Ronaldo, Ribéry, Ibrahimovic, Palacio and Chiellini. It must mean something.”

Now Capello wants to see coaches like Klopp and Mourinho invited to the Italian coaching training at Coverciano.

“A former player who reads a course at Coverciano said that they would rather invite modern than qualified coaches to their courses. They should invite Klopp or Mourinho, the very best, and return to teaching basic techniques.”
