Celtic Fans Let Off Fireworks During Minute’s Silence For Prince Philip

A group of Celtic fans let off fireworks outside Parkhead during a one-minute silence for Prince Philip ahead of the Bhoys’ game with Livingston on Saturday.

The noise of the fireworks was picked up on both radio and Celtic TV’s coverage of the game.

Buckingham Palace said the Duke of Edinburgh had “passed away peacefully” at the age of 99 at Windsor Castle on Friday morning and tributes are being paid across the sporting weekend, including in Scotland.

Following the announcement, the SPFL released a statement expressing its “deepest condolences”.

“Prince Philip played an enormously important role in the life of Great Britain for more than seven decades,” said chairman Murdoch MacLennan.

“His devotion to duty and his commitment to public service were shining examples to the whole of the United Kingdom and the wider Commonwealth.

“The many contributions he made to society, from his role in promoting conservation and the environment to his patronage of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, have left an indelible mark.”
