Champions League Red Card: Ronaldo Gets One-match Ban

UEFA on Thursday confirmed Cristiano Ronaldo will serve just a one-match ban, which will be the game against Swiss club Young Boys on the 2nd of October.

The Portuguese superstar was sent off during Juventus ‘ 2-0 win over Valencia after an off-the-ball clash with Jeison Murillo in last-week’s Champions League opener.

Afterwards, there were fears that the red card would lead to Ronaldo being banned for three games, which would have seen him miss two games against Manchester United, including what is set to be a dramatic return to Old Trafford.

But UEFA have confirmed Ronaldo’s ban will stay at one match, meaning he will be free to take on his former club.

Ronaldo, 33, will sit out Juve’s next Champions League group stage match against Young Boys in Switzerland next week.

UEFA also announced on Thursday that VAR would be introduced in the Champions League from next season.

Ronaldo has scored three goals since joining Juventus from Real Madrid this summer.
