Confederation Cup: Austin Amutu seeks to consolidate on goals

 

Former Nigeria U-23 ace Austin Amutu will be hoping to consolidate on his goal scoring abilities as Al-Masry battle Pyramids Sunday in the Confederation Cup.

Amutu is currently running neck to neck with Pyramids Mohammed Farouk with three goals apiece after three rounds of group fixtures.

The clubs head into the fourth round group stage fixtures this weekend with clubs desperately seeking to earn a place in the quarterfinals. All the eight matches will be played on Sunday.

Group A leaders Pyramids FC have accumulated the most points after three rounds of fixtures, with the Egyptian club boasting a perfect 3/3 record.

Fresh from a hard fought 2-1 win over league rivals Al-Masry who incidentally are second on the log with six points, big spending Pyramids face the same opponents again on Sunday in what has been tipped as one of the star matches of the weekend.

Amutu and Farouk who will be playing on opposite side will be eager to put their sides ahead while breaking the deadlock as to who leads the goal scoring chart.

Nigerian club sides Enyimba and Rangers International will be in action at home against Paradou AC and Nouadhibou respectively.

While Enyimba stand slim chance of progressing should the peoples Elephants win at the Aba Township Stadium on Sunday, same cannot be said of Rangers who have only garnered a point in three matches and will only get four points if they win at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium.

Pyramids and Al-masry already have 9 and 6 points to occupy first and second position in the group.

Last season’s runners-up, RS Berkane, top Group B with seven points, same amount accumulated by both Horoya and Hassania Agadir who sit atop Group C and D respectively.
