Copa del Rey final: Ancelotti gives injury update

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti is expecting Luka Modric, Karim Benzema and David Alaba to be available for Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against Osasuna.

Modric again missed out against Real Sociedad on Tuesday due to a hamstring issue, while Alaba remained unavailable for selection due to the thigh injury that he picked up against Chelsea in the Champions League in the middle of April.

Benzema, meanwhile, was left out of the squad for what proved to be a 2-0 loss for Los Blancos, with the centre-forward being protected due to his fitness problems this season.

However, Ancelotti has said that aside from Ferland Mendy, who is still out with a calf problem, Real Madrid could have a full squad for the Copa del Rey final.

“There were some knocks, because it was an intense match with a lot of heavy tackles. Nothing special. We’ll have most of the players back for Saturday’s game,” Ancelotti told reporters after the defeat to Real Sociedad.

“Mendy won’t be playing, but the rest, more or less, will all recover. [Federico] Valverde, Benzema and all those who were at home today will be available.”

Vinicius Junior and Eduardo Camavinga will also be back in the squad, with the pair unavailable for selection against Real Sociedad due to suspensions.

“He trained today, he’s feeling good, we’ll reassess him in the coming days. We won’t take any risks but he is recovering really well and I think he has a chance of playing,” Ancelotti added on Tuesday when asked about Modric’s chances of featuring against Osasuna.

Real Madrid are now 14 points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, who are on the verge of winning the title, but the capital giants can still win two trophies this term, as they will also take on Manchester City in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Real Madrid will welcome Man City to Bernabeu for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on May 9 before the return fixture in Manchester on May 17.
