Coric: Federer can win Wimbledon and Australian Open

Borna Coric believes Roger Federer has a shot at winning his 21st Grand Slam title next year. This year the Swiss won the Australian Open, but then reached Wimbledon quarter-finals and US Open fourth round.

Coric believes that a well-rested Federer can be very competitive again. ‘I think it’s possible,’ said Coric when asked by Sky Sport Italy about Federer’s chances to win a Major. ‘I faced him a couple of times this year.

Roger takes a break during the clay-court season and it gives him the possibility to rest. Seeing him at the age of 36 was fantastic, he played five sets also and it was something special. So I definitely see him in the race to win a Grand Slam, obviously one of his favorite tournaments is Wimbledon so he may win there.

Let’s see what happens next year.’ On Alexander Zverev, Coric added: ‘He showed us in the last season that he can play a very good tennis. Winning the Finals is going to give him a huge confidence, that positive mindset for the Grand Slams which he needed.

He can win the Slams, become number one. In the Slams until now he has not gotten any great result, especially for his name. But I think in 2019 he is gonna be there, I expect him to play at least a Grand Slam final.’ On his co-operation with Riccardo Piatti at the Italian coach’s academy in the north of Italy, Coric concluded: ‘We started working last year in this time.

We knew each other, I knew him already many years ago when he was with some of his players in the tournaments. I came here with no idea how it was gonna work. Since then it was a great relationship so far, I improved a lot as a person and a tennis player.

Now I moved here and I will spend most of my time here.’
