Costa’s late strike sends Juventus through to last 16

Douglas Costa scored a late winner against Lokomotiv Moscow which sent Juventus to the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday with scores ending 2-1.

The Brazilian forward came off the bench to make a crucial last-gasp impact with a brilliant solo attempt to break the home side’s hearts.

The Old Lady knew that a win would clinch their spot in the knockout stage with two games to spare and they got off to a perfect start on three minutes with what was their 300th goal in the competition.

Aaron Ramsey tapped in Juventus’s opening goal from a Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick which went through the legs of goalkeeper, Marinato Guilherme’s legs.

Twelve minutes later, the home side responded and were level on through Aleksey Miranchuk

Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain came closest to restoring the away side’s advantage, but Guilherme went some way to redeeming himself with a string of smart saves.

The dramatic late triumph means the Bianconeri remain unbeaten under Maurizio Sarri so far this season and sees them move top of Group D on 10 points, ahead of Atletico Madrid’s trip to pointless Leverkusen. Lokomotiv remains third on three points and are all-but out.
