David de Gea goes out for Christmas meal with girlfriend after Watford loss

David de Gea enjoyed a Christmas meal out with his family and girlfriend Edurne Garcia as the Manchester United keeper prepares for a hectic run of festive fixtures in the Premier League.

The Spaniard was at fault for the opening goal, allowing Ismaila Sarr’s shot through his gloves, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss at Watford on Sunday.

However, De Gea and his team-mates, who are eighth in the Premier League, will host Newcastle on Boxing Day before visiting Burnley two days later and De Gea looked in good spirits as he ventured out for the dinner.

De Gea’s team-mates leapt to his defence after the goal, with Luke Shaw telling the club website: ‘Of course it was a freak goal. David has saved us so many times in so many different matches over the years he has been here. There is no way you can point any blame at him at all.

‘He is a world-class goalkeeper and I am sure he will pick himself up.

‘I am sure all of the lads will be around him. David is David. He is always happy so hopefully he can stay happy and focus on the game on Boxing Day.’

De Gea and his long-term popstar girlfriend Garcia, who have been together since 2015, were joined by a large group of family members at the Italian restaurant.

Garcia, who competed in Operación Triunfo in 2005 – the Spanish version of Britain’s Got Talent – relocated to Manchester at the start of the year to live with De Gea.
