Derby County player of the year: I was surprised to win–Tomori

 

Fikayo Tomori has said he was surprised to win the Derby County ‘s player of the year.

The 21-year-old central defender collected the Jack Stamps Award at the club’s end-of-season dinner tonight on Tuesday.

“Yeah! It’s good on a personal level to win the award. It shows I have been doing well on the pitch and that has been recognised. It’s been a good year.

“It came as a little bit of surprise. I wasn’t really expecting to win anything but it was a nice surprise! I have a great relationship with the Derby fans. From the first day I got here they have been welcoming to me. They have supported me in the games where I haven’t done so well, or the t hasn’t performed as well. Home or away they support us and that has helped me out. I’m very grateful they voted for me,” he said.

Tomori has impressed during his season-long loan from Chelsea.

He has started 40 of the 43 league games and in all eight of the cup matches.

The England Under-21 international has now picked up two player-of-the-year awards having recently received the Derby County Supporters’ Clubs’ top-player prize.
