Eagles are 3rd in Africa, 44th Globally in latest FIFA ranking

Nigeria has seen its stock rise on the latest FIFA world rankings thanks to its three straight victories in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Super Eagles are now third in Africa behind Tunisia and Senegal and have gone four spots globally to occupy the 44th position for the month of October.

Last month Nigeria defeated Seychelles 3-0 and followed it up with convincing victories against Libya both home and away to seal the top spot in Group E with nine points.

According to the FIFA ranking, Nigeria garnered 1,431 points this month, as against 1,415 it had in September.

The Eagles revived their fortunes by outclassing Libya 4-0 in Uyo and 3-2 in Tunis in the return leg.

Congo Democratic Republic and Morocco complete the top five teams in Africa while Nigeria’s group opponents in the 2019 African Nations Cup qualifiers, South Africa, Libya and Seychelles, are in the 73rd, 105th and 188th positions respectively.

On the overall table, Belgium are now ranked world number one by a point, ahead of Russia 2018 World Cup winners, France, who beat them in the semi finals; as the Belgians have 1,733 points to France’s 1,732.
