Eagles to bring home N2.9billion if they win AFCON

Super Eagles who begin their quest for the fourth Nations Cup title on Tuesday in Garoua Cameroon, will bring home N2.9billion should they emerge champions of the continental fiesta.

CAF rose from its Executive Meeting on Friday increasing the prize money for the Winners of the championship.  Though the increase cut across the winners runners, semifinalists and quarter finalists respectively it is clear that virtually every team will be targeting the top prize.

Nigeria boasts of three titles in the kitty won in 1980, 1994 and 2013 in South Africa and finished in the third place at the last edition in Egypt 2019.

Heading to the Nations cup in Cameroon, Nigeria sent German tactician Gernot Rohr packing just a few weeks to the tournament a move which triggered off a lot of reactions for and against.

While those who backed the Glass house move said it was long overdue insisting that Rohr though made some achievements did not deliver the needed cake for which Nigeria paid for, others said throwing him out so close to the tournament will impact negatively on the team.

All that has become part of history as former international and Austin Eguavoen has already taken over with yet another foreign coach Jose Peseiro also on ground.
