Eguavoen satisfied with Super Eagles show in AFCON warm-up win

Super Eagles interim boss Augustine Eguavoen says he’s satisfied with the team’s performance after they beat Cameroonian club Cotonsport 2-0 in an AFCON warm-up on Friday.

Goals by Ahmed Musa and Samuel Chukwueze in either half gave the three-time African champions victory on the day.

“They were impressive. We played two sets of teams, first half 11 players and second half another set of players just to see how they fare and cope with the weather conditions,” Eguavoen said.

“We struggled a little bit with the weather.

“We were impressed with the ball possession and movements.

“And to win this game was a good thing for us.”

However, Eguavoen noted the team will need to work on some aspects of the game before their opening game Tuesday against Egypt.

“The boys played to instructions, but at some point they didn’t because of fatigue,” he pointed out.

“The ball movement was good, but as the game progressed you could see fatigue setting in and they slowed down.

“In front of goal, we were too few (players).

“Crosses were coming, we had the ball possession, we played to the sides, which is out strength, but we arrived in the box with fewer players.

“That we have to work in the next few days.”
