Europa final: Sevilla can upset Inter Milan, says Castro

Sevilla president, Jose Castro, has said they won’t be intimidated facing Inter Milan in the Europa League final.

The two teams meet in Cologne on Friday night.

“We have knocked three big clubs out so far, all of whom had bigger budgets and more competitive squads, and yet we eliminated them,” Castro told Canal Sur.

“We know it’s difficult, but also that we are transformed in this competition and are capable of achieving anything. Inter have double our budget and are having a magnificent tournament, but I like difficult challenges.”

Sevilla are serial Europa League winners, ending up victorious in all five previous Finals in 2006, 2007, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

“We know what Finals are like. There are other clubs preparing for the next season, while we are proud to instead be competing for silverware.

“If we should close the campaign with the Europa League trophy, it’d be a huge success. That’s what we want to achieve.”

Meanwhile,Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte has heaped praise on Diego Godin ahead of their Europa League final against Sevilla.

Conte admits Godin had to transform his game following his arrival from Atletico Madrid.

The coach remarked: “He had to learn to defend while running forward, and to learn to defend with 50 yards of space behind him.

“He had the strength, professionalism and humility to make himself available and broaden his game in terms of playing style.

“So, credit to him. He put himself out there and took on the new challenge, and now he is seeing great results.”
