Everton 1-0 Arsenal: Iwobi Rated Average

At 36 years and 233 days, Phil Jagielka is the oldest player to score in the Premier League this season

Alex Iwobi could not earn more than average in the players rating for the Arsenal’s toothless game against Everton on Sunday.

Arsenal suffered a potentially crucial blow in the race for the top four as they were beaten 1-0 at Goodison Park in the premier League  game.

The Nigerian was a late addition to the starting XI after he was a substitute-in for Mesut Ozil in the 74th minutes as Arsenal was already chasing a goal-lead.

Arsenal were poor in the first half and, while they did improve in the second, they never seriously tested Jordan Pickford in the Toffees goal.

Phil Jagielka scored the only goal as Everton beat Arsenal at Goodison Park to claim their third consecutive Premier League win.

Victory for Everton means they leapfrog Watford into ninth while Arsenal remain in fourth.

Player Ratings

Starting XI: Leno (7*); Mustafi (5), Sokratis (5), Monreal (4); Maitland-Niles (4), Guendouzi (5), Elneny (4), Kolasinac (5); Ozil (4), Mkhitaryan (4), Lacazette (5).

Substitutes: Aubameyang (5), Ramsey (5), Iwobi  (5).

No one particularly stood out from an Arsenal perspective, but Leno deserves some credit for a tidy performance in between the sticks.

The German keeper made a string of decent saves in the second half to keep the Gunners in contention and, without him, the game could have easily drifted away. He also looks to have refined his ability to command his box, which had previously undermined his early performances after taking the number one spot away from Petr Cech.

Looking Ahead

Everton travel to face the already relegated Fulham at Craven Cottage next Saturday, whilst Arsenal are set to welcome Napoli in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash on Thursday.
