Ex-Super Eagles star lands in trouble for match-fixing

Ex-Super Eagles star Dickson Etuhu has been found guilty of attempting to fix a match in Sweden’s topflight by an appellate court.

The 37-year-old Etuhu was said to have attempted to conspire in the company of another man to offer former teammate Kyriakos “Kenny” Stamatopoulos money to fix a game between AIK and IFK Gothenburg back in spring 2017.

“What preceded the meeting and what was said at the meeting must be seen in a context. In the opinion of the court, Kenny Stam has clearly been offered an improper benefit,” the Court Of Appeal in Stockholm said in its judgment published on Wednesday.

Previously, the Stockholm District court cleared the ex-Man City man of any wrongdoing, noting there was not enough evidence to prove he offered Stamatopoulos money during their time with AIK.

Etuhu disclosed that he will be appealing the ruling after carefully studying the Court’s pronouncement with his legal representatives.
