 FIFA  hires Liverpool head of medical chief

Liverpool are set lose their head of medical services, Andy Massey, at the end of February.

The Northern Irishman set to link up with FIFA in a senior role. Massey has been connected to the club since 2013, when he was handed the role of academy doctor.

Massey’s departure was confirmed in an internal email from FIFA, which has been leaked to the Training Ground Guru.

It read: “Andrew Massey will be our new director of medical. Andy is the current head of medical services at Liverpool FC.

“He has a long medical experience not only at a prominent football club (indeed, the Champions League holder), also as national team doctor (Irish FA).

“He lectures on the Manchester Metropolitan University MSc Sport and Exercise Medicine since 2016. Andrew will join us as from 1 March 2020.”

Massey’s departure comes after he established himself as a crucial figure behind the scenes at Melwood, where he was dubbed as Liverpool’s ‘master of medicine’.
