Nigeria’s Super Eagles are beginning to count their losses, no thanks to their back to back defeats in pre-World Cup friendlies which has seen them drop a place in the latest FIFA ranking published on Thursday.

Results against DR Congo (1-1), England (2-1) and Czech Republic (0-1) ensured that the three-time Africa Champions slipped from sixth to the seventh spot in the continent and 47th to 48th globally ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

World Cup group opponents, Argentina and Iceland remain 5th and  22nd but Croatia’s 2-0 loss to Brazil last Sunday at the Anfield Stadium saw them drop two places from 18th to the 20th position.

World Champions Germany retained their number one spot while West Africa neighbours Ghana are 6th in Africa and 47th in the world. Brazil, Belgium and Portugal complete the best five teams in the world.

Meanwhile three of Africa’s World Cup representatives Senegal, Morocco and Egypt climbed a spot each while Tunisia who remain Africa’s best dropped to 21 from 14 in the world ranking.

The next FIFA ranking will be released on July 19 July which is after the World Cup.
