Forest eye Wolves Gibbs-White as first signing

Nottingham Forest are prepared to test the resolve of Wolves over talented youngster Morgan Gibbs-White, according to reports.

Gibbs-White came through the youth ranks at Molineux and recently spent the season on loan with Sheffield United.

He was excellent for the Blades as they were a penalty shootout away from reaching the Championship playoff final.

The 22-year-old scored 11 goals and provided nine assists in the second tier.

With interest in the young midfielder growing, Wolves reportedly offered Gibbs-White a new deal in order to convince him that his future belongs at Molineux.

He is currently under contract until 2024 and has sparked surprise interest from Serie A champions AC Milan.

Wolves boss Bruno Lage is said to be a huge fan of the player and is convinced that he can make an impact in the Premier League.

However, according to Alan Nixon (via Birmingham Mail), Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper wants to make “top young star” Gibbs-White his first summer signing.

Cooper guided Forest to the Premier League via the playoffs, ending a 23-year hiatus from the top flight.

The Reds would reportedly be willing to pay up to £20m for the attacking midfielder, with Southampton also keen.

Cooper coached Gibbs-White during his time in England’s youth set-up and also brought him to Swansea City on loan in 2020.
