Gerrard cautions Mane against Liverpool exit

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has warned Sadio Mane he would make a big mistake by leaving the Reds in the summer.

The Senegalese star is strongly linked with a departure from Anfield in the coming months as he looks to start a new chapter in his impressive career.

In light of this, Aston Villa boss Gerrard wondered why Mane would ‘want to leave this Liverpool team’ after another successful season with the Merseyside club.

Speaking to BT Sport, Gerrard said: “[Mohamed] Salah has already said he will be here next year, I know there is some noise around Mane.

“But why would you want to leave this Liverpool team knowing they will be competitive at the end of the season?”

Egyptian star Salah was also unsure about his future at Liverpool, but is now expected to stay with the club until the end of next season a decision Gerrard Mane says should follow.

Ahead of the Champions League final, Mane teased an announcement about his future saying: ‘Come back to me on Saturday and I’ll be sure to give you the best answer you want to hear. It’s special. I’ll give you everything you want to hear then.’

The Senegalese attacker has won the Africa Cup of Nations, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup this calendar year, coming just short of Premier League and Champions League success with the Reds.

When asked about the potential move, Jurgen Klopp referred to his previous rivalry with Bayern Munich, the side reportedly willing to offer £35million for Mane.

Klopp said: “Wherever Sadio will play next season, he will certainly be a great player. Sadio is definitely in the shape of his life.
