Goalkeeper sacked for mocking deaths, violence in wake of drug lord arrest

Argentine goalkeeper, Gaspar Servio, has had his contract terminated by Mexican side Dorados Sinaloa after allegedly posting videos on social media mocking the violent incidents that occurred in Culiacan last week.

The Mexican second division club based in the Sinaloan city of Culiacan, opened an investigation after Servio allegedly placed controversial videos, which included music and written comments, on his Instagram account related to the events that took place on Oct. 17 in their city.

A club statement said: “Dorados Sinaloa states that as a result of the case and following the event that occurred last week with the player Gaspar Servio, the club has decided to unilaterally terminate his contract early.

“We reiterate our commitment to the city of Culiacán, to our fans as well as to the values that we have always tried to project and encourage in the Sinaloense society.”

In the videos allegedly posted by Servio, armed men were seen firing on police with bodies strewn on the road.

The videos were later removed, with Servio posting a Instagram message denying any wrongdoing and claiming that his Instagram account had been hacked.

Servio, 27, made 69 appearances for Dorados, including three league appearances this season.
