Guardiola delighted with Man City ‘quality’ in seven goal thriller

Manchester City returned to winning ways with a 5-2 victory over Southampton.
The Sky Blues are now 14 points clear on top of the Premier League table, although second-placed Manchester United have a game in hand.

Kevin De Bruyne gave City the lead with 15 minutes on the clock after sweeping home from close range.
James Ward-Prowse equalised from the penalty spot shortly after following a clumsy Aymeric Laporte foul on Jannik Vestergaard.
It seemed City would be made to work for their victory after Phil Foden was denied a clear penalty, until Riyad Mahrez scored with time running down in the first-half.

The Algerian almost had his second minutes later, only for his shot to cannon off the post. Fortunately, Ilkay Gundogan was there to tap-in the rebound to make it 3-1.

Mahrez, who has been linked with Real Madrid recently, eventually got his second in the second-half after meeting Foden’s pass inside a crowed penalty box.
Che Adams got one back for the visiting Saints, but the deficit only lasted three minutes before De Bruyne scored his second.
Pep Guardiola’s side are now six wins away from claiming their third Premier League title in four seasons.
“They made us suffer at times,” Guardiola told Sky Sports after the game.

“In general it was good. Another victory and we move on to Fulham. Southampton put a lot of players in the middle and made it very hard for us.

“They expose a lot which allowed us to counter. The quality of our players won the game – Riyad, Phil and Kevin. “We won so we’re happy. Fulham is next.”
