Guardiola: I hate showboating

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola appears to have reprimanded in-form forward Raheem Sterling for showboating in the final moments of the 3-1 win over Man United on Sunday.

City were cruising to victory in the contest courtesy of goals from David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Ilkay Gundogan, whereas Anthony Martial managed United’s goal from the penalty spot.

The results means City go two points clear at the top of the standings over Liverpool on 32 points from 12 matches, while the Red Devils are in eighth on 20 points.

Nonetheless, Guardiola was clearly not pleased with the actions of Sterling in the closing stages of the clash at the Etihad Stadium.

The England international had the ball on the touchline and then decided to do some step-overs to cries of ‘Ole’ from the home supporters.

As such, the Spanish coach confronted the winger at the final whistle by pulling him into a firm embrace and lecturing him strongly for what he had done at the back-end of the contest.

Speaking of the incident, Guardiola told reporters: “It’s not just the best way defending back, because everything can happen.

“But he made some movements with the legs, we can avoid it, but he’s young and he’s going to improve.”
